The house of U Kalanathan, patron of Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations, was attacked by miscreants yesterday (July 3, 2011). It is reported that these miscreants were angered by Kalanathan’s suggestion during a television debate that the treasures (estimated to be more than Rupees 100,000 crores) discovered at Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Thiruvananthapura, Kerala, should be used for the welfare of the people.
According to PTI reports, police has said that four glass window panes of the house at Vallikunnu (near Kozhikode) were broken in the stoning and a motorcycle parked in the compound damaged in the attack unleashed by a group of unidentified people last night. But no one in the house was injured. Kalanathan, state secretary Kerala Yukthi Vadi Sanghom, had expressed his views on utilisation of the temple treasure while participating in TV debates. Reacting to the attack on his house, he alleged this was a planned attack carried out by 'communal elements’.
